Garden Room Lighting

Garden Room Lighting

With the dark nights closing in, we’re turning our lights on earlier every morning and evening. This is no different for a garden room or office, even though they are often designed to maximise natural light. You’ll probably spend time considering the windows and doors and the light they will let in. However, the choices you make around lighting in a garden room are significant and will impact the overall usability, especially in the winter months. Lighting can make or break a room and create an ambience. It’s crucial to consider how you will be using the room and the lighting needs for your space.

We take a look at different lighting choices and the rooms they may be best for!

LED Ceiling Lights

LED lights are great to use in a dim corner or above a desk. They offer focused lighting options for areas such as cupboards and storage rooms because they instantly give bright light in one spot. These are a great choice to add lighting to brighten small specific areas.

Spotlights

If you are going to be using your garden building as an office or exercise studio, we recommend considering spotlights. Small recessed lights placed in the ceiling will provide consistent lighting throughout the building. Spotlights and the significant amount of light they offer can give the impression of a larger room. They may not be the best choice if you’re looking for a space to relax and meditate in because you won’t get the warm relaxing vibe you’re looking for; however, they’re perfect for a home gym or office.

Strip Lighting

Another excellent option for a home office is strip lighting. These are often found in office buildings, and this is because they have an even warm glow across them, but they’re not as direct and blinding as spotlights can be. We would also recommend strip lights for a playroom; even a rogue bouncy ball isn’t likely to break a strip light.

Dimmer Switches

The ability to dim the lighting means that as your eyes tire or natural light changes, you can alter the lights accordingly. As the daylight fades, you can turn the lighting up to achieve the environment that you need. They can be perfect for a home office or working area where the daily usage is frequent, and light will change throughout the day.

Lamps

Ceiling lighting is, of course, crucial, but a great way to supplement the lighting and add another element of functional design to a room can be through the use of lamps. Lamps provide a range of illumination across different heights and allow the room to have different looks depending on how you’re using it. Lamps are great for a multipurpose garden building such as an office that turns into a living space in the evenings. Strip lighting coupled with lamps allows for full lighting during the day for work purposes and softer lighting in the evening for relaxing.

Lamps are also great for fine detailed work because they offer the opportunity to focus light directly in one place and work without straining your eyes.

Candles or Fairy Lights

Candles can create a perfect ambience if you’re looking for a relaxation area such as a yoga or meditation space. Consider shelves for large candles or stands to take candles off the floor. Fairy lights can be a great way to reduce your electricity usage if you opt for solar-powered ones. They make the space look gorgeous and can be used inside or outside the garden room.
